What's Included in the Academy Pass

The Academy Pass is a mix of live stream shows, assemblies, quizzes, interviews and headline events that you can join in throughout National Careers Week and British Science Week in March. 

Each day there’ll be a morning assembly, a couple of shows, and either interviews or quizzes in the afteroon – at least 4 live streams per day!

You also receive REAL medical kit in the post for you to keep and use at home. This year we’re including a Stethoscope, Pen Torch and a Reflex Hammer along with pre-recorded sessions on how to use the the kit!

We also send you a Career Inspiration Pack that includes a giant A1 Medical Career Map poster, career fortune tellers and a special series of 5 A4 career posters.

Do you really get medical kit to keep?

Receive a stethoscope, pen torch & reflex hammer to keep!

Yep! We know that science lessons and careers guidance is ALWAYS more impactful with some practical work. That’s why we send you real medical kit in the post for you to keep and use across the two weeks and beyond! 

You’ll receive a STETHOSCOPE, PEN TORCHE and REFLEX HAMMER as well as access to pre-recorded lessons that show you how to use the kit!

Use them in March or in any future Science Lessons!

The kit is sent out over Feb Half Term hols so it will arrive during your first week back after the Feb hols. 

Who is the Academy Pass for?

There’s something for children aged 8 to 18 in the Academy Pass. 

For younger members of your Home Ed family, The Senses Show, use of the medical kit, quizzes and the morning assemblies would be perfect for them. 

For the older teens, the Human Guinea Pig Show, live stream from a sports science lab, assemblies and afternoon interviews would be perfect. 

Remember – if you can’t make the live streams, you can watch the recordings any time up until the end of July!

What are the Live Stream Shows & Events

Headline Events

This year we’re running a headline event LIVE from a Sports Science Lab in British Science Week. 

Each one will look at the amazing science used to monitor sporting performance and how we design and make specialist surgical equipment. 

You’ll be able to watch live and ask questions through the chat or catch the recordings later on. 

The Human Guinea Pig Show

Tom’s flagship show, where he takes you on a journey through five amazing careers in Healthcare Science! Over 60,000 students have seen this show!

These are careers are not doctors or nurses, but scientists that perform 85% of the diagnostic tests in a hospital. You’ll see Tom try some of these tests on himself, LIVE during the show!

You’ll see how an ultrasound is used to look at blood vessels, recordings of an ECG, how we can scan our veins with infrared and even see inside Tom’s lungs during a bronchoscopy!

The Senses Show

If you want something a little more interactive. This show is just for you!

During the show, Tom takes you through 10 mini experiments you can try in your classroom that explores your senses and quirks of the human body. 

Tom shows you what to do, you try it in your class, then Tom explains the science behind it. 

All the experiments are quick and easy to follow with no special kit needed. 

We send you the pen torches in your med kit, and all you need to provide is some scrap paper, pencils and some sweets for a taste test!

Duration & When: 50min / Live Stream multiple times across NCW & BSW. Also available ANY TIME as a pre-recorded show from when you buy.

Ideal for: Years 4 to 9

Suitable for: Years 4 to 11

Live Interviews with REAL Medics

Each afternoon across both NCW and BSW we’ll be interviewing medical professionals and scientists to find out more about their roles and how they got there. 

These are a highlight of the Academy Pass! 

You can ask questions through the chat and we’ll ask them live! 

We’ve doctors, surgeons, engineers, biomedical scientists and more lined up!

Duration & When: Every afternoon in NCW for 30-40min from around 2:30pm. Recordings available immediatly afterwards. 

Ideal for: Years 6 to 9

Suitable for: Years 4 to 13

Morning Assemblies & Afternoon Quizzes

Each morning across both NCW and BSW you can tune into our morning assemblies which give a little taste of the world of medicine and health

Each assembly covers a different topic, from diseases, medicines, careers and medical equipment. 

If you can’t watch live, lots of schools watch the previous days assembly during a time that suits them! 

We’ll also run several quizzes over the two weeks that explore medical images and amazing science facts! 

Duration & When: Every morning in BSW & NCW for 10min from around 9am. Recordings available immediatly afterwards. 

Ideal for: Years 6 to 9

Suitable for: Years 4 to 13

Recordings until the end of July!

Lining up all our live streams with your daily schedule, might be tricky. Thats why we make all the recordings available until the end of July so you can watch them at a time that suits you. 

Our two flagship shows – The Human Guinea Pig & Senses Show are also available to watch ANY TIME from when you order with our pre-recorded versions of the show. 

Every live streams is available to re-watch from around 10minutes after the live stream has finished until the end of July!

Virtual Work Experience Pack

This year we’re also including FIVE pre-recorded interviews from our Main Academy site.

They are all indepth 40-60min interviews, broken up into 10-15min digestible episodes. 

You can also access our reflection PDF to answer questions about each role and include them in any UCAS applications.
